ouija Hollywood Wiretap is reporting that Michael Bay and David Berenbaum’s Platinum Dunes production company has been enlisted to bring Hasbro’s supernatural game “Ouija Board” to the big screen with the project set up at Universal per The Hollywood Reporter. Hasbro has a six-year strategic partnership with Universal to bring several of their board games to the big screen starting with BATTLESHIP which is currently in production.

According to Hollywood Wiretap, Hasbro’s Parker Brothers has been manufacturing and selling millions of Ouija boards worldwide since 1966.

A “ouija board” style game was featured in the campy 1987 film WITCHBOARD starring the even campier Tawny Kitaen (of Whitesnake video fame). Sadly, the DVD is out of print, but Amazon has copies available via its marketplace.

Although some people (possibly even me) just think it’s a piece of cardboard with letters on it, topped by a plastic pointer device, many people are convinced that it is a portal to the other side and not to be toyed with. I remember as a kid, getting one for Christmas and trying to figure out if it needed batteries or something because the thing just sat there and didn’t do anything. Well, not until someone (possibly even me) started pushing it around. It does, however, appear to be a portal to some vivid imaginations. Here’s hoping some really creative one’s get involved in writing a great script!

And here are some links to some fab Ouija boards available via Amazon, including a “non-Hasbro – so we couldn’t call it Ouija” Buffy: The Vampire Slayer Conversations With Dead People Board.

And for further info…..

And, finally – check this out….ideomotor effect

The notion of something sold in Toy R Us being able to talk to the dead makes me laugh. Still, I love the idea of Ouija boards. My parents hadone when I was little and I was creeped out/intrigued. And I loved, loved, loved Witchbaord with Tawny Kitaen!

That Buffy board looks cool. Nobody did magic like Willow on Buffy the Vampire Slayer!
